Bayram Balcı

As visiting scholar in Carnegie’s Middle East Program Balci focuses on Turkey’s foreign policy in the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. He established the Baku office of the French Institute for Anatolian Studies in 2003, where he studied about Shia and Sunni Islam in Azerbaijan and its relations with Iran and Turkey. He was director of the French Institute for Central Asian Studies in Tashkent (2006-2010). Balci is founding member of the European Journal of Turkish Studies and directing the editorial board of Les Cahiers d’Asie Centrale. He is author of Missionnaires de l’Islam en Asie centrale: Les écoles turques de Fethullah Gülen (Paris, 2003) and co-edited China and India in Central Asia: A New “Great Game”?
