Born 1959 in Karadag, in the mid Taurus Mountains, Savran studied until the second grade of primary school. She is the President of the Association of Solidarity of Sarikecilis, the last remaining nomadic tribe of Anatolia and an active member of the environmental movement. She works hard to keep the nomadic culture alive, to protect their environment, forests and rivers and to maintain their lifestyle in their natural habitat.
Savran’s application for “UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Covenant” on behalf of the Sarikecili nomads has been approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and will be negotiated by UNESCO in 2012.
