Edhem Eldem acquired his PhD degree from Princeton University in 1989 and is a faculty member in the Department of History at Boğaziçi University. Eldem’s research interests include late Ottoman social and economic history, and the history of archaeology. Some of his publications are: Voyvoda Street from Ottoman Times to Today; Pride and Privilege: A History of Ottoman Orders, Medals and Decorations; Death in Istanbul: Death and its Rituals in Ottoman-Islamic Culture; A History of the Ottoman Bank and Osman Hamdi Bey Sözlüğü (A Dictionary of Osman Hamdi Bey).
